The Inner sound current

The Inner Sound Current (often called Shabd, Nada, or Anahata Nada, The Word, Logos, Living Sound, The sound of silence) is described as a subtle vibration or resonance of consciousness itself — something always present within us, but usually unnoticed because the mind is busy.

Being mindful of it means cultivating continuous, non-judgmental awareness of that subtle sound or vibration, using it as an anchor for meditation — much like the breath in mindfulness of breathing.

  • This practice is found in many mystical paths:

    • Nada Yoga (Hindu tradition) — the Yoga of Sound

    • Sant Mat and Surat Shabd Yoga (Indian mysticism) — focusing on the Sound Current (Shabd)

    • Buddhist sound- The sound of silence, the sound of emptiness, awareness practices — awareness of internal or external sound as impermanent phenomena

    • Christianity- The word, Logos, Living sound, Divine vibration, voice of spirit or voice of God-The word that speaks within

🪶 The Practice: Listening of The Inner Sound Current.

    Here’s a structured approach:

    1. Preparation

    • Sit comfortably, eyes closed, spine upright.

    • Take a few deep breaths, allowing your body to settle.

    • Let your thoughts slow down naturally.

    2. Withdraw Attention

    • Gently withdraw attention from the outer world — from physical sensations and external noises.

    • Imagine your awareness turning inward, toward the inner space of your head or heart.

    3. Listening with Mindfulness

    • Instead of seeking, listen receptively.

    • Notice if there is a subtle inner hum, ringing, buzzing, or vibration.

    • Don’t force it — even silence itself can be your object of mindfulness.

    4. Stay Present

    • If you hear a sound, simply be aware of it — don’t label or judge it.

    • If thoughts arise, notice them and gently return to the sound (or to the act of listening).

    • The aim is not to control the experience, but to witness it moment to moment.

    5. Deepening Awareness

    • Over time, the sound may become finer or seem to draw you inward.

    • Let awareness merge with that sound.

    • Rest as awareness itself — calm, open, vibrant.

    ☀️ Mindful Attitude

    Approach this practice with:

    • Patience — the sound may be subtle or take time to perceive.

    • Gentleness — no straining or expectation.

    • Curiosity — simply observe what is, without forcing experience.

🌺 Benefits of Listening The Inner Sound Current
