Surrendering to

God’s Will

The Universal Path to Peace, Harmony & Greater Good

Not my will, but Yours be done — and in that surrender, all things find their place, and the soul discovers rest it never knew it was seeking.

LUKE 22:42 — REFLECTED UPON WITH LOVE

What Is God’s Will?
A Universal Understanding

Dear beloved reader, welcome. We are so glad you are here. Whether you have been walking a spiritual path for many years, or you are just beginning to sense that there is something greater quietly guiding your life — this reflection is written with you in mind, with an open and loving heart.

God’s will, in its most universal sense, is the great, loving intelligence that flows through all of creation. It is not a rigid set of commands handed down from a distant place. It is, rather, the deepest current of life itself — the wisdom that holds the stars in their courses, that turns seeds into flowers, and that gently, persistently calls each human heart toward its highest expression of love, truth, and goodness.

Across every great spiritual tradition — whether we speak of the Divine Will in Christianity, the Tao in Eastern thought, Dharma in the Hindu and Buddhist paths, Hukam in Sikh path, Shabad in Saints wisdom, the Way of the Spirit in Indigenous wisdom, or the Presence of the Beloved in Sufi poetry — there is a common recognition: there exists an ordering, harmonizing force in the universe, and aligning ourselves with it is the very purpose of our lives.

God’s will is not a wall that stops us — it is a river that carries us, gently and surely, toward shores more beautiful than we could have imagined on our own.

This universal will is not indifferent or cold. It is profoundly loving. It sees the whole tapestry of life — every thread, every color, every knot and every smooth passage — and it works always toward wholeness, healing, and the flourishing of all beings.

How Does God’s Will Feel?

This is a question that lives in the heart, not just the mind. Many seekers wonder: how do I know when I am aligned with God’s will? What does it feel like from the inside?

When we are truly resting in God’s will, there is often a quality of deep, quiet peace — not the absence of difficulty, but a stillness beneath it. It feels like coming home to a place we somehow always knew existed. There is a sense of rightness, a gentle knowing that whispers: yes, this is true. This is the way.

It may feel like:

Quiet clarity — a calm knowing that settles over uncertainty like morning light

Lightness of heart — as though a burden has been gently lifted from your shoulders

Effortless flow — doors opening, paths appearing, synchronicities that feel like grace

Inner warmth — a sense of being loved, held, and accompanied in all things

Expanded compassion — a natural desire to serve and bless others

Resilient trust — faith that does not crumble in difficulty, but deepens through it

It is worth noting, with great tenderness, that God’s will does not always feel easy or comfortable in the moment. Sometimes it invites us to release something we have been holding very tightly — a plan, a desire, an identity. In those moments, surrender can feel like loss before it feels like freedom. And yet, those who have walked this path will tell you: on the other side of that letting go is a spaciousness, a peace, and a joy that surpasses what they had so fiercely tried to protect.

Peace is the signature of alignment. Not the peace that requires everything to go right — but the peace that holds steady even when everything shifts.

Individual Will vs. God’s Will

It is important, dear friend, to speak of this with great compassion — because having an individual will is not wrong. Your desires, your longings, your hopes and dreams are not obstacles to be overcome. They are part of the beautiful, particular gift of being human. God loves the you that wants and dreams and hopes.

Yet individual will, when it operates alone — cut off from the larger, loving intelligence of the Divine — can become narrow, fearful, and grasping. When we act only from the small self, we tend to:

See only our own needs, forgetting the web of connection that holds us all

React from fear rather than respond from love

Force outcomes, creating resistance and exhaustion in ourselves and others

Chase a happiness that always seems to shift a little further away

God’s will does not erase the individual self — it elevates and purifies it. When we bring our personal will into alignment with the Divine, something beautiful happens: our desires become more spacious. We still care deeply, still act with passion and intention, but we hold our plans with open hands, trusting that what is truly meant for us will find us — and what is released was never truly ours to begin with.

Individual will says: I must have this, now, in this way. God’s will gently opens the hands and says: something even more beautiful is on its way.

This is not passivity. Aligning with God’s will is one of the most active, courageous things a person can do. It means showing up fully, giving your very best — and then releasing attachment to the outcome. It means doing your part with love, and trusting the rest to grace.

How God’s Will Serves the Greater Good

Here is one of the most beautiful truths we can contemplate together: when each individual aligns with the Divine Will, the entire world is quietly, profoundly transformed.

God’s will is always oriented toward the greater good — toward the healing, flourishing, and freedom of all beings, not just one. It thinks in longer arcs than our small selves can see. It holds simultaneously the child who is suffering, the one who causes harm, the family across the world, the rivers, the forests, the unborn generations — and it works, always, toward the restoration of wholeness.

When we yield to this greater will, we become instruments of that healing. Our actions ripple outward in ways we may never fully trace. A word of kindness spoken in alignment with love may change a life. A sacrifice made in trust may open a door for many. A peace held in one heart during chaos may be felt by those nearby, like warmth from a steady candle.

Every soul that finds peace becomes a source of peace. Every heart that opens to the Divine becomes a doorway through which grace can enter the world.

This is why the great spiritual teachers have always said: work on yourself, and you serve the world. Not as a replacement for outward action and compassion — but as the deepest foundation of it. A life lived in surrender to God’s will does not withdraw from the world. It engages the world more freely, more lovingly, and with far greater effect, because it is no longer driven by personal fear or ego, but by something vast and clear and kind.

Peace, Harmony & Healing —
Within and Around Us

Let us speak now of what awaits us when we truly begin this journey of surrender — not as a one-time event, but as a daily, moment-by-moment practice of returning to the loving will of God.

In the heart: There comes a peace that no circumstance can fully remove. The heart grows quieter, more spacious. Old wounds begin to soften as we release them to Divine care. Love flows more naturally — not only for those who are easy to love, but gradually, tenderly, for all.

In the mind: The endless chatter of worry and planning finds a resting place. The mind, no longer carrying the impossible weight of controlling everything, becomes clearer. Intuition strengthens. Wisdom speaks more easily. We begin to see situations not through the narrow lens of what we fear or want, but through the wider, kinder vision of grace.

In the body: There is remarkable wisdom in the understanding that spiritual alignment has physical effects. Chronic tension, carried for years in the body as a result of resistance and anxiety, begins to release. Breath deepens. Rest comes more easily. The body, like the soul, sighs with relief when it is no longer fighting the river of life, but floating in it with trust.

In the world around us: Relationships transform when we stop trying to control others and begin simply loving them. Communities deepen when individuals within them are oriented toward the good of all. Families heal. Old conflicts find resolution. Even the natural world seems to respond — for we are, after all, part of it, and when we come back into harmony with the great order of things, we tend the earth differently, more gently, more gratefully.

Harmony is not the absence of difference — it is many unique voices, each fully itself, each listening to the same great Music, and together making something more beautiful than any could alone.

This is the gift that awaits every soul that turns, even imperfectly, even haltingly, toward the will of the One who loves us beyond all telling. It is a life that is not always easy, but always meaningful. Not always comfortable, but always held. Not always certain of the path ahead, but always certain of the Love in which it walks.

A Gentle Invitation

If your heart has stirred even a little as you read these words, that stirring is itself a gift. You need not understand everything. You need not have it all figured out. You only need to whisper, in whatever way is true for you:

“Not my will, but Yours. Guide me. I am willing.”

That is enough. That is always enough. Grace meets us exactly where we are — and from there, the journey into peace, into harmony, into the greater good begins anew, one beautiful, ordinary, holy moment at a time.

With love and blessings, always,
